Endoscopy today is not just a diagnostic camera — it is a treatment tool. Through the same flexible scope used to examine the gut, our specialists can stop active bleeding, remove polyps before they turn cancerous, clear bile duct stones, dilate narrowed segments, place stents, and take precise biopsies. Performed under sedation as a day-care procedure, these interventions allow patients to go home the same day and resume normal activity within hours, avoiding open surgery and prolonged hospital stays.
Digestive symptoms are common, and most have simple explanations — but some are early signals of serious disease. Our approach is to investigate appropriately rather than excessively, distinguishing functional conditions like IBS and acid reflux, which respond well to medication and lifestyle correction, from conditions that need active intervention. The department works closely with surgical gastroenterology, hepatobiliary surgery, medical oncology, radiology, and nutrition and dietetics so that patients requiring escalation are transferred seamlessly within the same institution. AIROC Hospitals is a NABH and JCI accredited facility with a dedicated endoscopy suite, advanced sterilisation and scope reprocessing, and day-care recovery beds.
Diseases & Conditions
Acidity, GERD & Peptic Ulcers
Persistent heartburn, chest burning, regurgitation, and upper abdominal pain caused by acid reflux, H. pylori infection, or painkiller-induced ulcers — treatable but often ignored for years.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome & Chronic Constipation
Recurrent bloating, cramping, and alternating loose motions and constipation without structural disease — distressing, frequently misdiagnosed, and highly responsive to the right combination of diet and medication.
Fatty Liver, Hepatitis & Cirrhosis
Fat accumulation, viral infection, or alcohol-related injury to the liver, progressing silently through inflammation and fibrosis to cirrhosis, jaundice, fluid accumulation, and liver failure.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's & Ulcerative Colitis)
Chronic immune-mediated inflammation of the intestine causing bloody diarrhoea, urgency, abdominal pain, and weight loss, requiring long-term specialist medical management.
Gastrointestinal Bleeding
Vomiting of blood or black tarry stools from ulcers, varices, or erosions — a medical emergency needing urgent endoscopy to identify and stop the source of bleeding.
Pancreatitis & Biliary Disease
Acute or chronic inflammation of the pancreas and obstruction of the bile ducts by stones or strictures, causing severe upper abdominal pain radiating to the back, jaundice, and fever.

Diagnosis
Upper GI Endoscopy
Direct visual examination of the food pipe, stomach, and duodenum to detect ulcers, reflux damage, varices, and growths, with biopsy taken in the same sitting.
Colonoscopy
Complete examination of the large intestine to evaluate bleeding, altered bowel habit, and chronic diarrhoea, and to detect and remove polyps before they become cancerous.
Ultrasound Abdomen
First-line, radiation-free imaging to assess liver texture, gallstones, bile duct dilatation, spleen size, and free fluid in the abdomen.
FibroScan & Liver Function Tests
Painless elastography combined with blood tests to measure liver stiffness and fat content, staging fibrosis without the need for a biopsy.
CT & MRCP Imaging
Cross-sectional and dedicated bile duct imaging to map pancreatic inflammation, ductal stones, strictures, and tumours prior to intervention.
